Day 7 Exploring New Mexico

Day 7!
We started the day with a drive up Sandia Crest - Mom has read about the tramway up - but it was $20 a person and she really doesn't like trams, she mentioned it to her cousin Chad who lives in Albuquerque and he told her about the way to drive up! It was great! We were higher than all the mountains around us!
We then went down the mountain and all the way across town to Petrogylphs national park. We hiked there and became junior rangers and then went to the Rio Grande Zoo, had lunch there and stayed at the zoo seeing the animals until it closed - we then drove the last part of route 66 on our trip - central ave, it's also the only place that route 66 crosses itself (learned that in oklahoma) we then went to mom's cousin's Chad's house, met his wife, daughter (our cousin!) and his in-laws and then we went out to dinner with Chad and Dacia (Chad's wife -we really liked both of them and talked their ears off) - then it was back to the hotel -we got back really late - about 8:45 and Mom said we had to get up really early to go to our plane - but I really wanted to swim - Adrienne stayed in the room and went to sleep but Dad and I went swimming until 10pm! and it was in ground indoor.outdoor pool!
at the restaurant at the top - over 10,000ft!

Mom has a video of this she's going to try and upload later - but this ape played hide and seek with me and other games for a while... it was so much fun.

one place in the country that route 66 and route 66 cross each other.

Mom thought this was cool, Dad told her to stop being a tourist.

Day 6 - 480 miles in the car!

Day 6 -
We woke up in Clinton OK, We had breakfast and then we went to the Route 66 museum. It was really interesting! After the museum - we headed west to the Washita National Battlefield. We stopped there and became junior rangers there! After got lunch on the Texas/Oklahoma border and then headed into Texas! A new state for all us us - We drove all across the panhandle of Texas - it's pretty flat! We stopped for souvenirs and snacks in Amarillo and then at Cadillac ranch! A true Route 66 landmark! Then it was on to New Mexico! There are parts of Texas and New Mexico that only have 1 house every 20 or more miles - boy those kids must have a long bus ride. Dad decided to take a break based on a billboard in Tucumcari, New Mexico! At a Dinosaur Museum - What great stop it turned out to be! After that it was back in the car AGAIN... We stopped for dinner in Santa Rosa, New Mexico at another iconic Route 66 diner - with the neon and everything just like cars.. Finally it was on the Albuquerque! We got there and our hotel was on the 16th floor! It was 12 hours in the car but we got to watch a lot of movies and eat a lot of CANDY!

We played this really really interesting game at the museum - about living in the dust bowl and trying to figure out what to sell, what to take and how much money we needed to get to california - we made all the right choices and made it!

Diner in the route 66 musuem - it was set up by decades - here we are in the 1950's.

Outside the musuem

On the road westward - this was in the highway about an hour into our trip
